How to Get to Tara
x----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Vigil phone number - 086-1758557
-
which is 0035386-1758557 from outside the Republic of Ireland
if you can - ring the Vigil before you leave to see if they need anything brought down
By road -
- from Navan , take the road to Dublin
the N3
Tara hill is to the west of this road - about five miles along
After you pass the Tara Na Ri bar - keep an eye out for a turning on the right
there is a signpost to Tara ( Teamhair )
but not a very noticeable one
for the camp at Rath Lugh / Lismullin
- its a turning to the east off the N3
and - coming from Navan - the turning is before the Tara turn off ....
the best thing to do is to ring the Vigil phone for directions - or go to the camp on Tara Hill
and somebody will explain better or else show you
By public transport -
- Translink or the airbus from Belfast to Dublin - the airport bus goes from outside Jurys Hotel at half-past every hour and goes to the airport but keep your ticket because that will take you on the next bus to Dublin
it might be a good idea to bring ID of some kind
- In Dublin - go to the main bus station ( Busaras)- by the Customs House, Isaacs hostel , Connolly rail station etc
- get a ticket to Tara Cross and get on any bus to Kells or Navan and ask the driver to put you off at Tara Cross
- it will look like the middle of nowhere but it wil be the right place
- From Tara Cross - walk on a bit and follow the signs to Tara ( Teamhair ) up a lane to the left -
it is about 3/4 mile walk up the hill to the front gate at Tara you will see an old church , perhaps the JP's campaign caravan and a statue of St Patrick
~~~~~###~~~~~~
- For the Vigil site - either go onto the hill and it is behind Rath Grainne - or turn right at the gate and follow the road around for about a hundred yards and there will be a gap in the hedge to the left which will lead to the Vigil site
- there is a tepee
there will be somebody around
this is the original Vigil site but there is also a camp at Rath Lugh to keep an eye on the woodhenge at Lismullin
it IS walking distance - if you know where you are going - but sooner or later there will be a car going across
